NTSB Offers "Urgent" Safety Recomendation

First time board has issued such a recommendation in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending a comprehensive audit of safety programs and regulatory compliance of the company providing much of the commuter air service within Alaska.

The NTSB is recommending the "urgent" action by the Federal Aviation Administration for a review of HoTH Inc.

That company includes Hageland Aviation, Frontier Flying Service and Era Aviation doing business as Ravn Alaska, Ravn Connect and Corvus Airlines.

The NTSB also says the FAA should conduct an audit of its own oversight of Alaska-based operators.

The NTSB says it has investigated since 2012 six accidents and one incident related to the operators owned by HoTH Inc.

That includes fatal crashes Nov. 29 near the Saint Marys airport and on April 8 about 22 miles southeast of Kwethluk (KWETH'-luk).

"We hope that by issuing those recommendations that that safety bar is raised" said the NTSB's Clint Johnson Friday.
