WASHINGTON- The director of the Energy Department's National Energy Technology Laboratory has resigned and been replaced by his deputy on an acting basis.
Anthony Cugini has directed the lab since 2010. An Energy Department spokesman said Friday that Cugini was placed on administrative leave last month and resigned Oct. 11. Spokesman William Gibbons declined to give a reason for the leave, calling it a personnel matter. Deputy Director Scott Klara has been named acting director.
The technology lab develops advanced technologies to produce affordable energy and enhance energy security. The lab has research offices in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oregon and Alaska. The lab works with industry, universities and other government agencies and more than 40 foreign countries. It oversees more than 1,800 projects worth more than $9 billion.
