FAIRBANKS- A popular well used by Fairbanks cabin dwellers without running water has apparently gone dry.

The state transportation department has closed the popular Fox spring, located about 10 miles north of town.

DOT spokeswoman Hannah Blankenship says the spring has been running low all summer long.

She says the department put a camera down the well casing, and that shows the well has run dry.

The DOT has jurisdiction over the spring, which is actually a 27-foot deep well with a holding tank. It was drilled in 1980, and has never has gone dry before.

Maintenance staff will meet Monday to see if there might be a remedy.
