ANCHORAGE- The University of Alaska Regents asked its chancellors for better communications at a meeting Wednesday night in Fairbanks, before taking the discussion private.

Regents complained about how the University of Alaska Anchorage athletic department's recent problems were played out in public.

UAA Chancellor Tom Case gave a brief statement and answered a few questions before an executive session was called to continue discussions.

Last week, Case fired UAA athletic director Steve Cobb. That came after a series of events, including the revelation that former UAA hockey coach Dave Shyiak had slashed a player in 2011. Hockey supporters had issued votes of no confidence in Cobb before his firing.

Gov. Sean Parnell sent a letter to UA President Pat Gamble, urging him to take action.
