ANCHORAGE- Saturday is third annual Ted Stevens Day in Alaska.
Stevens, a Republican, represented Alaska in the U.S. Senate for 40 years. He died in a plane crash in Alaska in 2010.
The following year, the Legislature passed a measure setting aside the fourth Saturday of every July as Ted Stevens Day.
Organizers encourage people to get out and play to celebrate the day.
Several events are planned around the state. In Anchorage, new accessible playground will be dedicated at Cuddy Family Park.
A short program saluting Stevens will precede a barbecue in Fairbanks.
Two events are planned in Juneau, including an open house at the Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute and a potluck on Sandy Beach.
In Soldotna, people will learn how to cook and clean salmon
