State Cuts Fairbanks Mental Health Center Funding
State health officials say they are cutting funding to a financially troubled Fairbanks mental health center.
FAIRBANKS- State health officials say they are cutting funding to a financially troubled Fairbanks mental health center.
The Alaska Division of Behavioral Health next week will void its contract with the Fairbanks Community Behavioral Health Center, which is $1.2 million in debt.
The state will shift funding to Anchorage Community Mental Health Services for care of Fairbanks clients.
The board of the Fairbanks center last week voted to pursue bankruptcy.
The organization serves more than 1,000 clients annually, providing emergency psychiatric care, chronic mental health treatment and residential care.
Interim executive director Jake Poole says the center's 60 or so employees likely will keep their jobs and clients will see minimal changes during the transition.
