JUNEAU- The state has signed a cooperative agreement with a major financier of liquefied natural gas projects.
The memorandum of understanding between Alaska's Department of Natural Resources and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation comes as the state seeks to further strengthen its ties in Japan and Asia as it pursues a major liquefied natural gas project.
The two-year agreement was signed while Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan was in Japan for an LNG conference.
It says the parties can, at their discretion, share information or views on issues like the LNG project and potential projects the state would like the JBIC to evaluate for possible international financial investment. It also makes clear the agreement is meant only to record the two sides' intention of "strengthening mutual cooperation."
