JUNEAU- A court ruling is what some are saying is a further step in the direction of equality.

Friday, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled that the governments exclusion of  death benefits for same sex couples is unconstitutional.

In 2011 Kerry Fadely was shot to death on the job at the hotel where she worked.

The hotel refused to give Fadely's partner access to compensation under the Alaska workers compensation law which is automatically extended to heterosexual couples.
