KASILOF- A 16-year-old Soldotna boy who apparently shot himself in the leg is being charged with weapons misconduct and underage drinking.

Alaska State Troopers say they were called shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday to Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, where the boy was treated.

The teen's name was not released.

Investigators say he shot himself with a .22-caliber pistol while camping at Tustumena (tuhs-tuh-ME'-nah) Lake and that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Investigators also say a large party was going on at the lake campground but that participants fled after the gunshot.

After treatment, the teen was released to his parents. He was subsequently arrested on the weapons charge and transported to Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility.

Troopers say he was issued a summons on the minor consuming alcohol charge.
