FAIRBANKS - The three Roman Catholic dioceses in Alaska say they're likely out money because of the bankruptcy of a Las Vegas travel company.

The dioceses used ITC Tours to book July trips for 50 Alaskans to attend World Youth Day Pilgrimage in Rio de Janeiro.

ITC Tours announced two weeks ago that it would file for bankruptcy.

A letter by bishops to parishioners says the loss of the prepaid arrangements is expected to cost the dioceses about $181,000.

The churches can make a claim in bankruptcy court but it could take years to see a claim paid off.

Catholic Diocese of Fairbanks spokesman Robert Hannon said only one Fairbanks resident is planning to make the trip July 23-28 trip to Rio.
