ANCHORAGE- A 41-year-old woman who started a fire that burned a 24-unit Anchorage apartment building has been sentenced to one year in prison.

Jenae Collins was sentenced Thursday on a deal with prosecutors in June, when she pleaded guilty to attempted arson in connection with the January fire. The sentence also includes paying restitution.

A prosecutor says Collins lit a corset on fire while fighting with her boyfriend.

The fire destroyed the three-story building, sent two people to the hospital and killed several pets.

Some of the displaced residents attended Thursday's hearing and objected to the sentencing, pushing for a harsher penalty.

Former resident Gretchen Johnson cried in court as she talked about losing a large portrait of her mother, who died last year.
