An Anchorage retiree was hacked to death during an attack by robbers wielding machetes in Guatemala. His wife, 67-year-old Nancy Dryden said that her husband was killed by four men who boarded their boat while it was anchored in Lake Izabal.

66-year-old Daniel Perry Dryden bought the sailboat back in February and was docked on a lake in northern Guatemala when the attack took place. The couple was in the middle of preparing their vessel for a trip into the Caribbean. From there their journey would take them to the U.S. east coast.

Nancy is listed in stable condition at the Bethesda Hospital.
