FAIRBANKS- State lawmakers are heading north Tuesday to take a first-hand look at the Point Thomson petroleum field.

Sen. Click Bishop says he's optimistic about Exxon Mobil progress on the prospect.
The Fairbanks Republican says he believes the company is serious about moving ahead with the development and that Point Thompson could enhance chances for a major natural gas pipeline.
Point Thomson is considered a promising prospect but the state and Exxon Mobil for years disagreed about whether the company was making sufficient progress toward development.
A 2012 settlement includes potential penalties aimed at forcing the oil company to move toward increased production.
Bishop says he's pleased to see Exxon Mobil following through on promises to hire Alaskans.
