ANCHORAGE- The Coast Guard has medevaced a crew member off a bulk carrier from the United Kingdom after he was injured in fall.
The guard, in a release, says the crew member from the Anne Mette suffered multiple injuries, and was flown to Anchorage for medical care.
A Coast Guard helicopter from Kodiak flew to the carrier about 200 miles southwest of Adak. It picked up the injured 20-year-old and flew him to Adak, where he was put aboard an HC-130 Hercules plane for the 1,300-mile flight to Anchorage.
Because of the distances involved, the Coast Guard used two helicopters, two Hercules planes and 31 crew members.
The Coast Guard says the Anne Mette has its home port in Douglas, on the Isle of Man, and carries a United Kingdom flag.
