KODIAK- The Coast Guard has two helicopters, a C-130 cargo plane and a cutter on the way to a fishing vessel in distress in the western Aleutian Islands.

KMXT radio reports that the 59-foot longline fishing vessel Western Venture activated its emergency location device west of Adak on Sunday morning, and that the wife of a crewmember said she heard from her husband that there had been a fire in the ship's bow.

Petty Officer 1st Class Sara Mooers says the Coast Guard had been unable to reach the five-member crew by radio. She says another fishing vessel, the Aleutian Beauty, was also on its way and should reach the Western Venture on Sunday afteroon, slightly before the Coast Guard aircraft were expected to arrive.

Conditions in the area include 22 mph winds with seas of up to 4 feet, with good visibility.
