The Coast Guard was preparing to hoist three crewman from a Liberian-flagged ship after they were injured when a large wave hit the vessel.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Shawn Eggert says the medevac off the cargo ship Copacabana is scheduled to take place Monday evening, about 200 miles south of Kodiak.

The 587-foot ship was about 500 miles south of Kodiak when the wave hit Sunday. The three men reportedly received multiple injuries, and a Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended they receive a higher level of care than what's available on the ship.

The ship was told to alter course toward Kodiak for a rendezvous. Two Jayhawk helicopter crews and a HC-130 Hercules airplane will take off from Kodiak for the medevac.
