Fairbanks fed building gets ventilation upgrade
The government will spend $12 million to improve the ventilation system at the federal building in Fairbanks.
Reports say the current ventilation system isn't suitable for a retrofit at the 40-year-old building, and a new system is required.
The U.S. General Services Administration maintains federal government facilities. It says the project will go to bid this summer. Construction should start next year with a completion date of early 2017.
No offices are expected to be relocated during the project. The three-story building is home to two federal courtrooms, and offices for members of Alaska's congressional delegation and agencies such as the IRS.
