State flags will be lowered Friday to honor former state Rep. Carl Moses, the longest serving member of the state House.

Gov. Sean Parnell says Moses died this week in Sand Point at the age of 84.

Unalaska Mayor Shirley Marquardt and former Mayor Frank Kelty say in an announcement that Moses was a force behind initiatives that benefited southwest Alaska and the Aleutians.

One was the Resource Landing Tax that brings millions to the state and coastal communities from the fishing industry.

A new small boat harbor in Unalaska was named for Moses two years ago.

The mayors say Moses was delighted to learn the Unalaska City Council had named the harbor after and joked that he was "glad they didn't wait until I was dead."
