Senate Minority Leader Hollis French says he will oppose a proposed change to allow out-of-state residents to serve on the board of directors of the Alaska Gasline Development Corp.

But he says House Speaker Mike Chenault is going about addressing the issue the right way.

Chenault plans to propose the change as an amendment to a Senate bill to extend the sunset date of a domestic violence council. House Resources is scheduled to hear the matter Thursday.

Chenault was a lead sponsor of the bill that established the corporation and has defended Gov. Sean Parnell's decision to appoint a Texas pipeline consultant to serve on the board.

Minority Democrats argue the law states Alaska residents must serve on Alaska boards. Parnell says the appointment is within his discretion.
