Inmate at Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward, AK was a victim of homicide

SEWARD, AK --  Department of Corrections say that 25-year-old cell mate Jason Rak was in a physical altercation which ended in the death of 29-year-old Elihu Gillespie.

Officals are saying that the two cell mates both had an extensive history of disciplinary action, but details will not be released at this time.

Both men were housed in Unit One, a segregation unit in the maximum security facility in Seward.

Alaska State Troopers say 29-year-old Elihu Gillespie was unresponsive in his cell at House One at 1:23 a.m sunday after an assault between his cell mate.

Gillespie was transported to providence seward medical and care center where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

 
No charges have been filed in connection with the homicide and troopers aren't releasing the name of the other inmate involved.
 
Gillespie was charged with second-degree murder in 2009 and was sentenced to serve 29 years in prison 2012.
 
Soldotna-based troopers are investigating the homicide.
 
This is the sixth inmate to die in alaska's maximum security prison this year.
