A plan to conserve the polar bear in the United States over the next century is being crafted by a very diverse group.

Led by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the plan when finalized will guide activities for polar bear conservation. It comes in response to the 2008 determination that the polar bear is a threatened species.

The 35 members of the group range from the oil and gas industry, native leaders and non profit environmental groups and officials say that diversity will make for a better plan.

The plan should be available for public comment sometime in the fall.
