A search is underway in the village of Kotlik for a 4-year-old boy missing since Monday.

Alaska State Troopers say parents of the boy reported him missing. He had been playing with a friend and did not return home Monday night.

Kotlik police called troopers Tuesday. Troopers from Emmonak, Bethel, Anchorage and Saint Marys traveled to assist with the search by local volunteers and rescue groups.

A trooper airplane is assisting in the search.

Ground searchers looked throughout the village and the banks of the nearby river and slough. Kotlik is a village of 650 about 165 miles northwest of Bethel.
