SITKA- Mary Bear is turning in her single-speed bike for a more powerful form of transportation after receiving her first driver's license at age 70.
Bear was relieved after the all the stress involved with taking the exam.
Bear is a U.S. Army veteran and wife of a railroad employee. She's lived in various places but just never got a license for one reason or another.
The mother of three and grandmother of three says it wasn't always easy to find licensed driver to practice with, and she couldn't practice with her grandchildren in the car.
But she got encouragement from her daughter and found some adult volunteers willing to train her.
She also says it helped that Sitka isn't a challenging place to drive.
