Aces Reign over Ontario in Shootout

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--Bobby Hughes is far from a household name on the Alaska Aces, but Wednesday night's performance could potentially lead to a cemented status in Anchorage.

Hughes showed up big for the Aces when they needed some offensive production the most. He tallied 3 points in the second period (2 goals, 1 assist), and kept the Aces within striking distance down the stretch.

Wednesday's game went into an extra period, and then finished with a grand finale.

The Alaska Aces (29-8) finished an unimpressive first period with only 4 shots on goal. Alaska's 3,800-plus fans in attendance weren't amused.

But the Aces finally struck a chord with Alexander Imbault's goal, a top shelf netter with an assist going to Hughes.

Alaska didn't look back after Hughes tied the contest going into the third period.

The Ontario Reign were unable to garner any momentum in the final period or overtime, which then trickled into the shootout.

The Aces picked up shootout goals from Nick Mazzolini, Bobby Hughes, Alain Goulet, and Jarred Smith.

Smith's shot bounced off the crossbar, and hit goaltender Dustin Carlson in the back to cross over the goal-line to give the Aces their first win without the likes of NHL talent.
