Aces Shield the Reign; UAA Hockey falls to MinnesotaANCHORAGE, Alaska--The Alaska Aces are a team known for impressive streaks. While nowhere near their longest of the season, the current home-stand may offer some of the most impressive wins all season. That's because Alaska is doing it without the luxury of their NHL veterans. Add insult to injury, the team has lost three other players to the CHL and AHL in the span of a week. That's plenty to mull over for any Alaska Aces fan. But on a night where a name and face needed to come together to unify a very changed team--Nick Mazzolini answered the call by doing what he's done all season long. Mazzolini accounted for Alaska's first two goals in the contest. The first coming with less than a minute to play while the Aces were short-handed. Mazzolini juked twice, and pushed the puck into the goal on the left side to make it 1-0. The Aces would score three more times to win 4-1. --Onward to Minnesota, where the UAA Seawolves faced off against the top team in the country, the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The "Green and Gold" looked golden on two different occasions in the contest. UAA had the lead twice courtesy of goals from Quinn Sprole, Daniel Naslund and Scott Allen; however, the Golden Gophers outmatched UAA late in the game as they add two goals in the second and third periods. UAA (1-11-3 WHCA) will finish up the road series on Saturday with a puck drop of 4:04 pm Alaska Standard Time. |
