Dimond Routs Chugiak in Season Opener, 10-2

The Dimond Lynx are only one season removed from a perfect record, and a state championship.

Even with all the accolades--Dimond Head Coach, Dennis Sorensen, believes there's still work to do.

"We graduated 13 seniors last season," Sorensen added, "And we have 11 now on this team. They know they have to work hard to continue the long tradition we have at Dimond High."

The tradition is of winning. Last season's team hoisted another state championship banner, and laid claim to a 26-0 record.

The Lynx took on Chugiak for the season opener this year. Only one year ago, the Lynx met the same opponent to start the season with a big 8-0 victory over the Mustangs.

The goals came early and often. Dimond scored more goals (10) in the game, than Chugiak had shots-on-goal (7).

Tyler Garcia, Ben Heafer and Tyler Andrews all notched two goals in the game. Garcia had both of his goals early in the first period.

Dimond (1-0) will play West High (1-0) at the Ben Boeke Arena in Anchorage on Thursday at 6:45pm.
