Hustle and Size; Two Factors in Lower 48 Tournaments

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--Heavy and sore legs were all to be had in many high school gymnasiums across Alaska.

Service, Eagle River, South and Lathrop all competed in the Lower-48 in various tournaments.

The Wolves of Eagle River managed only to fly back home with one win (against Medicine Hat High, Canada).

Shaquan Rhoades, a senior point-guard for the Wolves, leads the team in scoring and shooting percentage.

"We went down there, and we knew we were better than most of the teams we played," Rhoades added, "We just got outhustled."

It was a different story in Florida.

The South High Wolverines were unable to pick-up a single win in the sunny state, but senior center Jack Hobbs says he's encouraged by what he saw in the tournament.

"We knew we were going up against some big teams," Hobbs said, "But we can take everything we learned and bring it back here. That's what we need to do."

Eagle River awaits the East High Thunderbirds later in the week; While South plays host to a tournament in Anchorage.
