Pair of UAA Runners Receive National Honors

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--It shouldn't come as a surprise anymore. Micah Chelimo and Susan Tanui stuck to what they do best--winning.

Chelimo walked (or ran) away with a first place finish at Nationals with a time of 28:56.6. Chelimo has already won the GNAC and West Region cross country championships twice in his career. On top of those accolades, Chelimo also won the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships in May.

Tanui took home second place with a respectable 20:12.6--a time only six-seconds shy from the champion, Adams State's Alicia Nelson. Tanui's 2nd place finish was the highest individual result ever captured by a UAA women's team runner.

Overall, the Seawolves men's team finished in 3rd place, while the women's team finished in 6th. 

 

The UAA men's team finished in 8th place during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Their 148 points in the 10K race was the team's best finish in program history.
