Prep Nordic Skiing Season Returns

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--Last Monday provided a glimpse of hope for high school cross-country skiers in Alaska. That's because it was the first opportunity for prep nordic ski teams to take to the snow in official practices.

That doesn't mean the student-athletes haven't been working hard through training.

Jack Parke, Austin Hess, and Garth Schulz are all seniors on the team. They all agree that their training in the off-season will only benefit them in their quest for another title.

"In the summer did a lot of roller-skiing," Schulz added, "We run with poles, they call it hill-bounding."

Training while at Service High is intense. The team practices five times a week, and hit the weight room twice a week at 6AM.

If you'd like to see the ski teams in action--the first race of the season is on Saturday, December 1st, at Service High School.
