Senior Night Magic for Service Hockey, 2-1 Topping Lathrop

Tools

by John Thompson

Two nights removed from South High hockey senior night, a night where Wolverines senior Ron Perry tallied twice to beat East 2-1 in overtime, the Service Cougars would attempt to channel that same magic.

The Cougars played host to Lathrop, both schools in last years ASAA 4A State Semifinals.  Joshua Clifton would put the Malemutes on the board with 5:07 to play in the first period, senior Andrew Cummings would respond 25 seconds later to knot things up.  The second period would go scoreless thanks to stellar play between the pipes, Dustin Fritz of Service and Ryan Ebenal of Lathrop both had marquee nights.  Then came a Cougar powerplay midway through the third, senior Karson Frisk racked a dirty goal that would prove to be the game winner.

Service is alone in third place, following South and Dimond respectively.  The Cougars face off with unbeaten South Wednesday night (1-23) at the Ben Boeke Ice Arena.
