Service High Avenges Last Year's State Title LossANCHORAGE, Alaska--It's no surprise who this year's front-runner is for a trip to the 4A state title game. On Tuesday night, the Service High School Cougars basketball team displayed what many fans have seen all season long. Poise, and a thick determination to win. Those two qualities, paired with a strong full-court press allowed the Cougars to climb back from a two-point deficit at halftime. The Cougars stifled the Lynx with 29 points off of turnovers in the contest. Many of those points coming from the aforementioned full-court press. Adam Klie led all scorers for Service with 20 points. Amu Aukusitino snatched 14 points in the game, as well. For the Lynx--a team which lost many of its players from the state championship squad only a year ago, Tuesday served as a proving ground for the remainder of the season. "What happened last year is exactly where it needs to be," Dimond Head Coach Rob Galosich added, "We're going up against one of the top teams in the state, and it should be a good tune-up for this weekend's tournament." That tournament Coach Galosich is referring to is the 2013 Alaska Airlines Classic. Their first game will be against Juneau's Thunder Mountain High School. That game is slated for 4:15 pm on Thursday. Service High will also take part in this year's Alaska Airlines Classic. They open play with one of the top prep basketball teams in Alabama--Hoover High School. |
