Prep Basketball Starts With Wolves on ProwlEAGLE RIVER, Alaska--Tuesday's season opener with the Eagle River Wolves and the Colony Knights was as slick as the roads after the snow. Eagle River jumped out to a 36-20 halftime lead, only to see that lead disappear in the third quarter. The Knights came out of the gate strong in the 2nd half, and outscored the Wolves 20-13 in the third quarter. Eagle River's 16 point halftime lead was erased when Colony tied the game at 55-55; however, the Wolves, due in large part to Shaquan Rhoades 27 points in the contest, pushed Eagle River over the top, and finished the game on a 20-8 run. Eagle River 75, Colony 63 ERHS: 1-0, Colony: 0-1 -- The UAA Lady Seawolves Head Coach Ryan McCarthy has been hot on the recruiting trail--and that trail has found its way home with the signing of Wasilla senior Alysha Devine. Devine has led the Warriors to back-to-back state titles in the 4A Division. She's also a first team All-Northern Lights Conference selection. But Devine isn't the only move McCarthy had up his sleeve. Tuesday, he announced the signing of Kiki Robertson, a senior from Hawaii. Last season, Robertson shot 51 percent from the field and hit 75 percent of her free-throws. Her average of 19.9 points per game led the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, one of Hawaii's premier prep conferences. |
