Chugiak Cruises Past Mariners; UAA Falls to #2 Western Washington

EAGLE RIVER, Alaska--The Chugiak High School boys basketball team used an early run, and a nine point first quarter lead to oust the Mariners in Chugiak on Thursday.

Final (boys basketball): Chugiak 72, Homer 48

In the earlier game, the Chugiak Lady Mustangs used a balanced scoring attack, and a stifling full-court press to down the Mariners.

Final (girls basketball): Chugiak 37, Homer 21

Down in Washington, UAA had the tough task of taking on the number-two ranked team in the country on Thursday, the Western Washington Vikings.

The Seawolves would jump out to a 13-4 lead early due to some clutch three-point shooting, but wouldn't be able to maintain their grasp on the game.

Liam Gibcus tossed up 13 points in the contest. Other notable players--Teancum Stafford and Kyle Fossman added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Western Washington improves to 17-0 this season.

Final (mens basketball): Western Washington 75, UAA 62

The Lady Seawolves made a trip a few hundred miles south to Western Oregon.

Allie Madison would pull in a double-double on the night--a career first for her.

Alyssa Horn added 17 points in the contest, and UAA is able to come away with a win--their second in the past seven games.
