Kodiak & Mt. Edgecumbe Atop Rankings in Grace Invitational

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--Some of the state's top volleyball squads have signed up to play in this year's Grace Christian Volleyball Invitational.

The event has become a "Who's Who" for 2A and 3A talent. This year's pool includes last year's 2A and 3A champions in Dillingham and Mount Edgecumbe, respectively.

Here's a look at the overall records after day one of the round-robin format tournament:

Pool A
1. Kodiak (10-0)
2. Anchorage Christian (6-4)
3. Valdez (6-4)
4. Dillingham (5-5)
5. Homer (3-7)
6. Houston (0-10)

Pool B
1. Mount Edgecumbe (8-1-1)
2. Grace Christian (8-2)
3. Monroe Catholic (6-4)
4. Seward (5-5)
5. Barrow (2-7-1)
6. Eielson (0-10)

Kodiak, Grace Christian, Mount Edgecumbe and Anchorage Christian have locked up the four first round byes in this year's tournament play.

Kodiak awaits the winner of Seward vs. Homer.

Grace Christian will play the winner of Valdez vs. Eielson.

The winner of Dillingham vs. Barrow will battle Mount Edgecumbe.

While Monroe Catholic and Houston square away, with the winner playing Anchorage Christian in round two.

Opening round games begin at 9AM, with the winners playing starting at 10:30AM. The tournament is double-elimination. The overall championship is scheduled for 5:15PM, with an "if-necessary" game at 6PM.
