Monday: High School Recap
South and Chugiak opened up Monday's softball games at Albrecht Fields, and they did so with a bang.
The game was a pitcher's duel--South's Rachel White scattered 8 strikeouts over the game, while Chugiak's Carli Metzant fanned 7 Wolverine batters.
In the fourth inning, Bayli Mohl helped South push out to a 3-1 lead by a swinging bunt fielders choice. Sierra Maines would score on the play.
The Mustangs would tally a run early in the game, but wouldn't be able to produce offensively in the latter stages of the contest. White stepped up big in the 5th and 6th innings, getting out of two bases loaded situations with no damage.
White also helped her cause by beating out an infield hit, and plated Emily Eckroth for the game's final score.
FINAL: South 4, Chugiak 1
Moving to the other Albrecht Field--Dimond and Service would need extras to decide a victor.
For the Lynx, Tara Thompson hustled out a bunt back to the pitcher; however, a throwing error helped give Dimond a run--they scored four in the inning.
The Cougars wouldn't go down without a fight. Joley Hodgsons swung on and made contact for a base-hit up the middle to even the score at four.
Dimond put on their rally caps in the top 7th, scoring 6 runs on efficient hitting.
FINAL: Dimond 11, Service 6 (7 innings)
Undefeated in conference play, the East High Thunderbirds took to the diamond on Monday against Chugiak.
They'd get quite the boost in the first two innings from three-batter, Gabby Meyerson. In her first bat, Meyerson legged out an RBI double, which scored Lily Blair and put the Thunderbids on the scoreboard.
East would tally four runs in the first frame due in large part to Vaa Pedro's two-RBI double.
In the second inning, Meyerson came through again, with another double. She collected three-RBIs in the first two innings of play.
The Thunderbirds would jump out to a 10-0 lead after the first two innings of play.
A hitting clinic was being put on over at Mulcahy Stadium on Monday night. Chugiak went the distance though--ousting the Dimond Lynx with the game-winning run coming in the bottom of the 7th on a close call at home.
With the win, Chugiak advances to 4-2 on the season in conference play. The Mustangs are a game back on the Service Cougars for first place in the Cook Inlet Conference. Meanwhile, the Dimond Lynx drop to 4-3 on the season, and are currently tied for third with Eagle River.
FINAL: Chugiak 11, Dimond 10
FINAL: Service 5, East 2
