Preview: Dimond Boys & West Girls Soccer Teams
ANCHORAGE, Alaska--Coming off a state championship performance last season, the Dimond Lynx boys soccer program has their sights set high.
The team is anchored down by Kerrick Eagle and Matt Froehlich. Both players shared a similar sentiment--they believe last week's lost to South Anchorage High School has not only motivated the team to get better during games, but also to condition longer in practices.
Outside of Froehlich and Eagle, this year's squad will rely on Jack Seydour and Clayton Hayden to step up down the stretch.
The West Anchorage High School Lady Eagles soccer team faces a similar roster challenge as what many teams are experiencing this year--youth.
While the Lady Eagles will fall back on their senior leadership, the team currently starts a few freshman and sophomores.
Morgan Heppner and Samantha Manzer both are hoping for another opportunity to play Service High School later in the season (or playoffs). For those lacking in long-term memory, last year's Lady Eagles team lost to Service in stoppage-time by a score of 2-1 in double overtime.
This year's first meeting ended in a 4-0 win for the Service Lady Cougars, but Heppner and Manzer believe their team has the potential to play, and potentially defeat the Lady Cougars. Heppner cited the team's first opportunity to have every member of the team in uniform on the gameday against Service as a reason why this team could show potential later down the road.
