Teams Vying for Conference Positions; Service Remains at Top

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--Anchorage area basketball teams are only six days away from the start of the regional tournament, and teams are looking to make a move down the home-stretch.

FINAL (boys basketball): Service 67, Dimond 47

Coming into Tuesday's game, the Dimond High Lynx had lost 4 of 6, and were up against the top team in the state.

Marques Robinson pulled in 18 points on 5 of 13 shooting. Amu Aukuisitino and Adam Klie each added 14 points as well. Klie finished the night with a double-double (14 pts, 10 rebounds).

Despite being down by only three points in the second half, Dimond was outscored 25-13 in the final quarter--which would be more than enough for the Cougars to pounce on the Lynx.

Service forced 18 turnovers in the contest, and added 17 points off those turnovers.

For the Lynx, Stanson Afoa finished the night with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Payton Lauwers tallied 13 points, as well.

FINAL (boys basketball): West 63, South 46

IK Oghide finishes the night with 13 points and rebounds for a quick double-double.

Albeit late in the season--The Wolverines debuted a new defensive strategy in the contest; however, the West Eagles were able to push past the Wolverines thanks to a late surge due in large part to defensive turnovers in the backcourt.

FINAL (girls basketball): South 56, West 54

In a back-and-forth type game, the South High Wolverines edged the Eagles of West Anchorage by two points.

West has beaten South twice this season by an average of 20 points, but the injured CeCe Cockerham (West's leading scorer) proved to be a deciding factor in the game.

South's Sierra Mains scored 8 of her 13 points in the third quarter--and the Lady Wolverines would carry a lead of up to 7 late in said quarter.

The Lady Wolverines were led by Taylor Murray--who tallied 19 points on the night.

Grace Williams would secure a victory by sinking two jump-shots late in the fourth quarter which pushed South ahead by five.
