Top Boys Soccer Teams Reach Stalemate

by Jake Ryle

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--Tuesday's South versus West boys soccer match-up provided one of the fastest paced games of the season.

While the score read 0-0 at halftime, the action was literally non-stop at South Anchorage High School.

The Wolverines of South High would jump on the scoreboard first with a 2nd half goal from Eyob Imlach, and an assist to Hayden Western.

However, the match was evened when Drini Redzepi punted a beautiful corner kick right onto the head of Carson Klever. Klever's header pushed past South goalkeeper Griffin Toomey for the Eagle's only score.

West would get another opportunity at a quick goal from the likes of a penalty kick, but Toomey's steady hands blocked the shot, and averted a potentially devastating blow to the Wolverines.

With the tie--if both teams win the remainder of their games, West would have the advantage as being the number one ranked team in the Cook Inlet Conference due to a 2-1 victory over South earlier in the season.
