ANCHORAGE - One person is dead following a single vehicle accident on the Seward Highway.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at mile 111.6 of the Seward Highway near McHugh Creek.

The single car mishap closed traffic for about 30 minutes. Officers at the scene say there was only one person in the red Hummer that veered off the road.

"It was on a curve and instead of following the curve the vehicle went straight and hit a rock that was in between the highway and the rock faced wall," said Megan Peters, Alaska State Troopers spokesperson.

An investigation is ongoing.
