VCRS, based in Palmer is a non profit organization devoted to establishing recycling as a part of daily life in the Mat-Su Valley.

To obtain the green start award, VCRS had to complete 10 green star standards.

A few of those measures included actively composting all of its biodegradable material, installing chalkboards and whiteboards in classrooms to reduce paper and purchasing a low emission high efficiency vehicle forklift.
but green star officials say its not just following these guidelines that make VCRS so special.

"The cool thing about them is they practice what they preach at their facility...they really communicate that well with their employee's so everyone's on board so their not wasting at work." said Christina Grande of Green Star.
