JUNEAU - The 28th Alaska Legislature gavels into session Tuesday afternoon. (1/15)
Lt. Mead Treadwell swore in legislators who took an oath to defend the state constitution and represent their districts' best interests. There are a lot of new faces in the make-up of the new body. Six new members join the senate led by newly elected president Sen. Charlie Huggins, and 11 new members join the house led by Rep. Mike Chenault. Rep. David Guttenberg, D-Fairbanks, was the lone legislator not present due to his wife's health issues. His absence was felt by all in house chambers. Guttenberg sits on the finance committee with fellow minority member, Rep. Les Gara. Rep. Scott Kawasaki is an alternate due to Rep. Lindsey Holmes newly appointed seat on the committee after switching parties over the weekend and joining the house majority. |
