ANCHORAGE--- Colleagues, friends and family hold a retirement party for longtime Anchorage Police Department Public Information Officer, Lt. Dave Parker, at police headquarters Thursday. (12/27)

Parker's official last day is Monday, but the well-loved PIO is already planning his next move.

"I plan to do a little substitute police officering, and a little substitute police teaching," said Parker. "Just for fun now."

APD Chief Mark Mew presented Parker with a "special" award in the name of good humor, paying homage to one of his more memorable media moments involving a taser and a bear.

It was just another instance, when the man whom many say, has made such a difference in the community, had a twinkle in his eye.

"There's so many facets to Dave, he's a police man, he's a pastor, he's an advocate for men and women," said Chief Mew. "The multidisciplinary center was really Dave's work."
