ANCHORAGE---Anchorage School District Superintendent Jim Browder says he is a dad first and a superintendent of schools second.
"As all of you know, I expect you to be parents, husbands, wives first and then school board members," Browder said, as he addressed ASD staff Monday. (3/4/13)
The board gathered for an early meeting, but before usual business commenced, Browder wanted to take a moment to give a statement to his colleagues and the media.
"Last month or as you know, I have been dealing with some significant medical issues with members of my immediate family, " said Browder. "I feel it is important to be closer to them, if possible."
Being closer to his family in Georgia, means possibly considering other job opportunities outside of the state. Reports over the weekend claim Browder was announced as 1 of 3 finalists for a superintendent position in Iowa.
No definite announcements on Browder's plans have been made, but the former Florida superintendent gave his assurances.
"I'm still the superintendent of schools and I am working everyday in the best interest of ASD students, staff and this board and community," said Browder.
School Board President, Jeannie Mackie, expressed heart felt concerns for Browder and his family, while pointing out the workload ahead.
"Just so that everybody knows, the board will be having conversations with Dr. Browder going forward to identify our path," Mackie said. "Rest assured we have a lot of work to do. We are going to continue to do that work, everybody is committed to the path forward and that's where it stands."
