Airport plows clear refuge fields for spring geese

Workers Wednesday cleared snow at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge ahead of the first Canada geese of the season.
The summer residents showed up last year on April 3.
Refuge manager Laurie Boeck tells reporters that none have been spotted near Delta Junction and she predicts an April 12 arrival.
Airport plows clear the refuge fields as part of a cooperative agreement to keep birds away from jets and airplanes during spring migration.
Members of the Borealis Kiwanis provide an extra incentive. They will spread 4,000 pounds of barley on refuge fields Saturday morning to give geese something to eat.
