Alaska High Court Rules in Teen's Death
The Alaska Supreme Court has sided with an insurance company in a lawsuit by the Juneau parents of two teenage shooting victims.
JUNEAU- The Alaska Supreme Court has sided with an insurance company in a lawsuit by the Juneau parents of two teenage shooting victims.
The court's decision Friday limits liability to $300,000 in the case of United Services Automobile Association, reversing a lower court ruling that the company's policy could cover up to $900,000.
The lawsuit was filed after a 2008 shooting that killed 14-year-old Aidan Neary and injured another teen, Charles Schneider. The boys were at the home of teen Kevin Michaud, who was playing with his parents' gun.
Michaud reportedly put a bullet in the gun's chamber, pulled the trigger toward his head without the gun firing. He then pointed the gun at Neary, the weapon fired and the bullet struck Neary and then Schneider.
