Alaskan Economy Predicted to Hold Steady In 2013Economists predict federal employment to decline in 2013.
ANCHORAGE- According to economist Neil Fried the state of Alaska fared better in 2012 than experts predicted.
Alaska gained 5,300 jobs over the course of 2012, and the growth was fairly even among job sectors. Barring any economic surprises, 2013 is predicted to grow at the same rate. Growth in the health field, tourism, oil, gas, and leisure and hospitality, are all expected to grow. One industry did surprise the experts by improving last year. "Construction had been declining since 2007, and for the first time since 2007 construction started to grow again." said Neil Fried, a state economist. "That was probably the biggest surprise when we were looking at our numbers, because we did not predict that. We thought it would continue to fall in 2012." Federal employment in Alaska is expected to decline in 2013. |
