Alaskan Patients in Urgent Need of BloodANCHORAGE - The Blood Bank of Alaska has asked residents of Anchorage and Fairbanks to donate blood because of a recent rise in traumas. Officials with the center say a decrease in collections this month have created an urgent need for O Positive and O Negative donors. "We're only seeing 85 donors a day and we normally see about 100. This is a significant decrease," said Rebecca Parker, Director of Communications for the Blood Bank. The donation takes an hour and Parker says just one donation can save up to three lives. For National Blood Donor Month the Blood Bank encourages donors to give at least three to four times a year. Each year the center collects 26,000 units and officials say the need continues to rise. To donate: Anchorage 222-5630 Fairbanks 456-5645. |
