Alaskan soldier awarded Purple Heart medal

A U.S. Army Alaska soldier was awarded the Purple Heart medal Thursday for combat wounds he received while deployed to Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON- A U.S. Army Alaska soldier was awarded the Purple Heart medal Thursday for combat wounds he received while deployed to Afghanistan.

 
Sergeant Rigoberto Luviano was wounded in combat while deployed in 2013, when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device.
 
The award was presented by Lieutenant Colonel John Evans.
 
Luviano is from Lexington, North Carolina.
 
He's also been deployed to Kuwait and Iraq.
