Anchorage Church Ousts Boy Scout Troop

ANCHORAGE- A church in Anchorage has ended its sponsorship of a local Boy Scout troop in opposition to a national decision to admit openly gay scouts.
The decision by the Anchorage Baptist Temple left Boy Scout Troop 1316 and Cub Scout Pack 316 without a place to meet.
Several community organizations, however, have stepped forward to provide a place to meet nearby.
Troop members were notified of the decision this week, months after the Boy Scouts of America's National Council changed a long-standing policy in May and voted to allow openly gay members. A ban on gay adult Scout leaders remains.
The Anchorage Baptist Temple's chief pastor, Rev. Jerry Prevo, says the church had hoped the Boy Scouts' policy change would be reconsidered.
