Anchorage Homeowners Ankle Deep with No CoverageANCHORAGE - Many homeowners find themselves ankle deep in ground water Tuesday after rain showers caused flooding in basements and crawl spaces. According to local contractors many owners are realizing they don't have flood coverage. Rick Gerwin of Service Master, a disaster restoration company, says dozens of people called to report flooding. "With all the water going into the sewer system we've been seeing backups coming up through homes making quite a mess," said Gerwin. Todd Jackson, a State Farm insurance agent, says outside water coming into homes usually is not covered. "Without knowing all of the details most of the time that stuff is going to fall under flooding versus the coverage that a typical home insurance policy would cover, " Jackson said. Experts say if the damage is not covered homeowners could pay between $2-3,000 for water extraction.
